This is a gel cleanser, not a foam wash. The cleansing agents — Decyl Glucoside and Cocamidopropyl Betaine — are both plant-derived and selected for their ability to remove impurities, excess sebum, and environmental residue without disturbing the skin's acid mantle or stripping its lipid barrier. Decyl Glucoside, derived from coconut and corn glucose, is one of the mildest cleansing actives available and is widely used in formulations for sensitive, reactive, and compromised skin. Cocamidopropyl Betaine, derived from coconut oil, is an amphoteric surfactant that provides gentle secondary cleansing action and supports the skin-compatible pH of the formula. Together they produce a light, non-stripping cleanse that leaves the skin balanced rather than stripped.
Bladderwrack Seaweed Extract — Fucus vesiculosus — is the hero of the WAKAME Face Wash . Published research confirms that Bladderwrack contains fucoidan, a sulphated polysaccharide with clinically demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties that calm reactive and sensitised skin at the surface. Its mineral content — calcium, iodine, magnesium, potassium, and B vitamins — nourishes the skin during cleansing rather than depleting it. Studies have found that Bladderwrack inhibits collagenase and elastase, the enzymes that break down collagen and elastin in the skin, supporting the skin's structural integrity with every wash. It is one of the most well-studied seaweed ingredients in skincare science and it belongs in a face wash precisely because cleansing is when the skin is most exposed.
